Devault, PA - April 18, 2019 Round Five of the spring season was particularly important, as teams look to carry momentum into the bye weekend. There were several standout performances this weekend, as the Player of the Week voting was the closest it has been all year.

In the High School Girls Division 1, the Valkyries and Penn Legacy engaged it a hard fought bought that would end in a split decision. Valkyries Arti Chhungani was a difference maker on the day, scoring two important tries that allowed her team to hold onto the draw. Showing great  leadership from the scrumhalf position, she helped keep the team together both defensively and offensively.

Arti has been playing rugby for the last four years. She will be traveling overseas and studying abroad in France for her Junior year. Her goal is to return to France after graduation and attend medical school while continuing to play rugby and polo.

In the High School Boys Division 2, it was a battle of the best in the west, as Kiski Valley took on Hollidaysburg. Kiski Senior David Schuffert lead the Titans on the day, doting down two tries in a hard fought win. Dave was a monster in the middle, making tackle after tackle on a hard running Hollidaysburg team with All-American Gus Dellinger coming right at him. One of the more impressive feats was the four held up mauls that lead to big changes in field position.

Schuffert joined the Kiski Valley Club in 7th grade as a member of the junior team.  In his 6 years, he has been a huge part of the organization's success, as his 6’1” - 280 lbs frame has become the attention of most opposing defenses. As a multi-sport athlete, Dave is also an excellent football player and wrestler. Dave plans on entering the Sheet Metal union upon graduation.

Dave is chasing down the Kiski Valley record in career tries.  He currently sits just 5 away, at 36 with the record being 41.

Arti and Dave will join the rest of the winners in the running for our Player of the Year awards, which will be given out at the end of the season. They both will also receive invitations to the All-State Selections Camp on May 25th, where they’ll have a chance to prove they are among Pennsylvania’s best.
