Young area ruggers ignored sweltering heat and humidity to participate in Blackthorn’s recent Flag Rugby tournament on July 19.  Blackthorn hosted the event in partnership with The College Settlement of Philadelphia as another way to contribute to the local community.  The Coed competition had 200 participants and was spread among 7 age brackets ranging from Pre-K to 7-8’Th Grade with each bracket having it’s own size-appropriate pitch.  Visiting clubs included Doylestown, Narberth, North Penn (Phoenix Youth) and Phoenixville. 

Spectators were treated to an entertaining display of rugby consisting of equal parts athleticism, technical skills, and enthusiasm.  This was truly rugby at it’s finest where the sideline comments were all positive and players only thoughts were how to score their next try.
