What Are The Benefits Of Volunteering?

  • You get to represent your school, your club, your sport and yourself as someone willing to serve people who are less fortunate.

  • All Volunteers will receive a commemorative T-Shirt to wear during the event that identifies them as a Rugby PA volunteer who is there to assist disabled visitors.

  • PLUS RugbyPA will donate $50 per day to each volunteer's affiliated Club. ($100 per volunteer for the weekend).

How Many Volunteers Do We Need?

We need to supply 250 Players and 20 Adults for both Saturday, September 26th and Sunday, September 27th.  Volunteers can register for either or both days.

Who Can Volunteer?

We need two types of volunteers: Players and Adults (Parents or Coaches).  Players will be the primary volunteers with the Adults acting mostly as supervisors and coordinators.

Player volunteers must be in their Sophomore Year or later (age 16 or older) to be eligible.

What Is The Schedule / Logistical Details For Volunteers?

Here are some important details for your participation:

Meeting Point & Check In
  •  All volunteers should meet at the “SCOOTAROUND” tent, which will be on the corner of Broad Street & Pattison Avenue (next to the AT&T SEPTA Station) by 8:30am on Saturday and 9:30am on Sunday.
  • FREE parking is available to all volunteers in Lot V at Citizens Bank Park (home of the Phillies).  Be sure to mention that you are a RugbyPA Mobility Volunteer to get FREE access.

  • When you arrive - check in with a volunteer coordinator at SCOOTAROUND tent (wearing a bright green t-shirt).  The volunteer coordinator will explain your responsibilities and direct you to an assignment.

  •  All volunteers will receive a Volunteer T-shirt with RugbyPA and Dunkin Donuts logos.  Please wear these shirts to identify yourself.

  • All volunteers will also receive a Walking Map for the Festival of Families and Papal Mass.  The map shows all of the locations/destinations to help you direct or guide the disabled.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Volunteers will be asked to escort pilgrims with mobility issues and disabilities from the SCOOTAROUND tent to the AT&T Septa Station or wherever else they may need to go.

  • At some point during the late morning, coordinators will send volunteers to the Pennsylvania Convention Center where there will be a second Mobility Volunteer Station with SCOOTAROUND.

  •  Enter the Pennsylvania Convention Center at the Broad Street Entrance between Arch & Race Streets.  Follow directional signage to Room 126A to report in for assignment. There will be water and other light snacks available here.

Things to Consider

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers.

  •  The weather forecast is pleasant for the entire weekend.  It will be cool in the mornings and expected to reach the mid-to-high 70s by mid-afternoon.  Sunday includes a small chance of rain (20%).  Dress accordingly – knowing that you will be given a volunteer t-shirt to wear over any undergarments.

Thank you again for your generous pledge to volunteer.  Your efforts will go a long way toward making someone less fortunate be able to enjoy this historic event.  Have fun with it please.
